Fire Prevention
The City’s Fire Prevention program promotes public safety by administering fire codes and standards, conducting regular building inspections, and providing prompt detection and compliance of code violations. Every year Fire Prevention conducts regular fire safety inspections of some 700 businesses, institutions, and child care facilities throughout the Trotwood community with a team of 15 State Certified fire inspectors.Fire Prevention also:
• reviews all plans for new construction and renovations related to fire suppression and alarm systems
• works with Building Administration and Planning & Development to ensure code compliance and the integrity of fire protection systems, from design review through final inspection
• conducts fire hydrant inspections and ensures that the city's 1300 hydrants recieve annual testing and maintenance
Other duties within Fire Prevention include:
• investigating all fires to determine their origin and cause
• educating home and business owners about the inspection process
• renewing occupancy certificates only when fire hazards are abated
• using the permit process to control illegally operating businesses
