Nuisance-Abatement OrdINANCE
A new tool in Trotwood’s community-based policing approach is the City’s new Nuisance Abatement Ord., which allows Police to shut down and close up any residential property where illegal drug activity consistently occurs. First the owner or person responsible receives written notice declaring the property a public nuisance and requiring that everyone vacate or be evicted.
Following that written notice:
• premises must remain vacant for 365 days
• owner or person responsible must keep the property maintained
• costs of securing it as a public nuisance can be billed
• failure or refusal to comply can result in criminal prosecution
