09.22.08- City Appoints Police Chief
(Trotwood, Ohio, Monday, September 22, 2008) – The City of Trotwood announced today the appointment of Quincy E. Pope, Sr. as its newest Police Chief. Having served as Police Major since 2005, Pope is a 12-year veteran of the Trotwood Police Department. His Official Swearing In Ceremony will take place Monday, October 6th at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the Trotwood Community Center, 4000 Lake Center Drive, and the public is invited to attend.Pope’s law enforcement career began in 1995 when he became a reserve police officer with Madison Township. Following the 1996 City-Township merger he became a full-time police officer with the Trotwood Police Department. He was promoted to Detective in 1998, Sergeant in 2000, Captain in 2003 and Major in 2005 when he became responsible for the department’s day-to-day operations.
In January 2007, Pope commanded the department’s administrative division, which oversees internal affairs, accreditation, records, communications, the detective section, anti-crime unit, and policy analysis. He has worked in every area of the department including patrol, undercover investigations, violent crimes, and community policing.
Pope holds a Master’s Degree in public administration from Wright State University. He is a graduate of Park University and Sinclair Community College, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and an Associate Degree in Police Science.
Additionally Pope is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College, the Certified Law Enforcement Executive program, sponsored by the Ohio Association of Chiefs’ of Police and The Law Enforcement Foundation, and the State of Ohio and National Certified Public Manager Consortium’s Certified Public Manager Program. He is a Certified Law Enforcement Executive and a Certified Evidence Technician.
Pope is very active in the community. He is a member of the Montgomery County Police Chief’s Association, The Ohio Association of Chief’s of Police, the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, First Baptist Church, Trotwood Rotary Club, NAACP, Police Executive Leadership Alumni Association, St. John’s Masonic Lodge, and has served as a priority team member for United Way.
He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Dakota Center and co-chairs the housing committee for the Montgomery County Community-Wide Re-entry Task Force. He also is a member of the strategy and implementation team for the Miami Valley Initiative to Reduce Gun Violence.
