10.18.08- City Appoints Fire/EMS Chief

(Trotwood, Ohio, Wednesday, October 15, 2008) – The City of Trotwood has announced the appointment of Eugene C. Lutz Jr. as its newest Fire/EMS Chief.  Having served as the Assistant Chief/EMS Coordinator since 2002, Lutz is a 6-year veteran of the Fire & Rescue Department.  His Official Swearing In Ceremony will take place Monday, October 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at the Trotwood Community Center, 4000 Lake Drive and the public is invited to attend.

Lutz’s Fire Service career began in 1984 when he became a Firefighter/EMT for Perry Township, Lake County, Ohio where he served for 18 years and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1996.  In 2002 he left Perry Township to take the position of Assistant Chief/EMS Coordinator with Trotwood Fire & Rescue.

Since 2006 he has commanded the administration and day-to-day operations of Trotwood Fire & Rescue, overseeing Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention, Emergency Medical Services and EMS Billing and Collections.  During that time he also managed the construction of the City’s new $4 million Fire Station 72.  That same year Trotwood was awarded the 2006 Miami Valley Fire/EMS Alliance Department of the Year Award.   

Lutz holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Management from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio.  He also has an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio.  Currently he is enrolled in the Ohio Fire Executive Officer Program class seven.

Chief Lutz has earned a number State of Ohio Certifications, including: Professional Fire Fighting; Paramedic; Fire & EMS Instructor; Fire Safety Officer; Incident Command Fire & Haz-Mat; Arson Investigator; Haz-Mat Technician; and Fire Safety Inspector.

He is very active in the fire service, and holds full memberships in the: Ohio Fire Chiefs Association (Legislative Committee and Line of Duty Death Response Team for Southwest Ohio); Montgomery County Fire Chiefs; Southwest Fire Chiefs; Greater Miami Valley Fire/EMS Alliance (2008 Executive Board Vice Chair); the Greater Miami Valley EMS Council; National Fire Protection Agency; International Association of Arson Investigators; and International Association of Fire Chiefs.
