How Trotwood Got Its Name

Trotwood is the only town in the United States with this name, chosen by Lewis Pfoutz when he applied for a post office franchise in 1866. Because there was already another Higgins’ Station he selected the name Trotwood from the Charles Dickens’s book David Copperfield. Trotwood was platted in 1898 and incorporated September 16, 1901.

In 1996 the City of Trotwood and Madison Township merged to become a single incorporated entity. Points of interest in our city include: “Olde Town”, the core of old Trotwood. Buildings renovated in the styles of their original architecture are preserving the history and character of that bygone era. Trotwood’s restored railroad Depot is located at the center of Olde Town.
