Trotwood Depot Museum
The Dayton and Union Railroad came through this area in 1852. The formation of the village of Trotwood was significantly impacted by the railroad. The village was platted in 1898 and incorporated in 1901. The original railroad station, Higgins Station and Tavern, was between West Main Street and Broadway, where Loretta's Hair Depot is now located. The trains stopped for engines to take on water from a pond there.
This station was used until the Trotwood Railroad Station was built in 1912. Declining rail traffic during the 1940's brought about the closing of the station, which remained empty before being purchased for storage purposes by the Trotwood Locker, a local meat market owned by the Porter family. In 1980 the building was donated by Eugene Porter to the City and relocated to the southeast corner of East Main Street and Broadway.
