11.02.11- City Gets $192K Grant for New Park
The City hopes to soon start building a new public park – thanks to a $192,735 grant it just received from the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) Clean Ohio Land Conservation Fund.
While the City holds an option to purchase the properties where the park would be located, to date it has not done so.
Called the Main Street and Wolf Creek Corridor Stream Bank Preservation Project, these grant dollars will be used to acquire and redevelop two adjacent parcels. The frontage of the first, where a trailer park has been for over 60 years, is located is on E. Main Street in Olde Town. The frontage of the second parcel is on Stuckhardt Drive. To see an aerial view of the improvement area please click Main Street Park Plan.
Both parcels are located on the north side of Main Street along the banks of Wolf Creek. Together they total 6.25 acres that will be redeveloped into public open space by mid-year 2013.
Consistent with the City’s Parks and Open Space Master Plan, the project will also enhance accessibility to North Broadway Park from Main Street.
The project improvements include the re-grading and reforestation of the site with hardwood tree species, as well as the extension of a pedestrian footbridge to connect the parcels from both sides of Wolf Creek.
