04.20.10- City Appoints New Council Member

On Monday, April 19th, 2010, City Council appointed Nicole Johnson as its new City Council Member for Trotwood’s Ward 1 district. This followed an open application process stemming from the March 1st, 2010 City Council meeting. Durign that meeting Council first accepted the resignation of its previous Mayor. Former Vice-Mayor Joyce Cameron was then sworn in as Trotwood’s new Mayor, according to the process set forth in Section 3-7 of the City Charter.

Professionally, Nicole currently serves as the Decision Support and Informatics Lead for CareSource Management Group. She is a graduate of the Trotwood Leadership Academy, a member of the Dayton Urban League, and volunteers for both Rebuilding Together Dayton and Habitat For Humanity.  

According to Section 3-3 of the City Charter to the City Charter, vacancies in the office of council member shall be filled within sixty days by the vote of a majority of the remaining council members, by the selection of a person qualified. In accordance with Section 3-3, Qualifications: ‘Councilmen shall be qualified electors of the Municipality, residents of the Municipality for one year, and if elected by district, a resident at the time of filing his nominating petition of the district to be represented’. Council Member Johnson will serve until January, 2011, pending the results of Trotwood’s November 2nd, 2010 elections.
