Trotwood, Ohio Holds Youth Golf Camp
“All we have to do is make the effort to give these deserving children more chances to succeed,” said Trotwood Mayor Joyce Cameron at the conclusion of the City’s Northwest Summer Youth Golf Camp.

The Mayor created and led the 4-week program designed to introduce area youth ages 2-12 to the fundamentals of the game

The golf camp was co-sponsored by Trotwood’s neighboring cities of Brookville, Clayton, Union, and Vandalia, as well as nearby Harrison Township and Jefferson townships.

The Summer Youth Golf Camp was held on consecutive Mondays from July 19th through August 9th in two-hour sessions at a local golf course. Parents of participating children were asked for a $10.00 per child donation, which was supplemented by corporate and individual contributions that helped cover the costs of snacks, water and an instructional package.

A new Trotwood resident who had organized a similar program in Detroit was the main instructor. Others included the mayor, a local elementary school teacher and some mothers.

“It was especially gratifying to see how thrilled they were with all the individualized attention they got,” said Cameron. She said that more than 70 kids took part and she hoped to have more participants, more cities and sponsors involved in 2011.

“We need to work closely with all of our neighboring communities to generate more opportunities for youth here in northwest Montgomery County,” the mayor said.
