12.27.10- Dr. MLK Jr. Holiday Kickoff On January 16th

The Trotwood Ministerium will stage a Kickoff Event for the Dayton area’s Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday celebrations on Sunday, January 16th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Maranatha Christian Fellowship Church, corner of Wolf and Turner Roads. A Wilberforce University student chorale will provide music and refreshments will be served following the program. The public is invited to attend. 

This MLK Holiday Kickoff celebration will honor seven individuals who have labored to keep Dr. King’s dream alive in Trotwood.

Spiritual Leader: Maranatha Christian Fellowship Bishop Truman Martin

Business Leader: Trotwood Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marie Battle

Education Leaders: Trotwood-Madison School District Treasurer Diana Whitt and Business Manager John Smith

Community Leader: Sisters of the Precious Blood (SPB) President Florence Seifert (accepting for the SPB community)

Civic Leaders: City of Trotwood Mayor Joyce S. Cameron and City Manager Michael J. Lucking

The event’s featured speaker is Reverend Dr. Josephine Whitely-Fields, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Bridgeville. Dr. Whitely-Fields is an ordained clergywoman of the Western Pennsylvania Conference. She has been in ministry for 33 years and has ministered as pastor of African American, multi-racial, and Caucasian congregations including Coraopolis, Emory, Buena Vista, McMasters and New Life United Methodist Churches. 

She recently served as the Associate Dean of Doctoral Studies at United Theological Seminary in Trotwood, and has taught courses in spiritual formation and African American Studies. Dr. Whitely-Fields holds a Master of Arts in Religion from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh; a Master of Divinity degree from the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio; and Master of Arts and PhD in Formative Spirituality at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is widely regarded as a dynamic speaker and is well qualified to speak to our theme of keeping Dr. King's dream alive in the Dayton area.
