10.06.09- Fire & Rescue Levies On The Ballot
Public safety is and always will be the Trotwood City Council’s top priority. But because the nation’s economic crisis has hit cities particularly hard, this City now needs the community’s help more than ever. For nearly a decade the demand for Trotwood Fire & Rescue’s award winning emergency medical and fire protection services has been increasing at an alarming rate. Since 2001, calls have grown nearly 10% a year, every year. 2008 alone saw a record 5,796 calls, with over 4,000 of them for emergency medical assistance. As a result personnel are stretched to the limit, and the City’s aging medic unit fleet has suffered serious wear and tear.To keep its highly trained Fire/EMS personnel on the job, rapidly responding to emergencies, on November 3rd the City will ask voters to approve a 2.00 mill, five (5) year renewal levy for personnel costs, which brings no tax increase. Voters will also be asked to approve a five (5) year, 2.00 mill levy for replacing and maintaining EMS apparatus and equipment, which on a home appraised at $75,000 would cost only an estimated $46 per year. For Fire & Rescue to continue to deliver its superior emergency services, passage of both is essential. For more information please contact Fire/EMS Chief Gene Lutz at (937)
