10.20.11- City Hires New Fire Chief
Effective October 31, 2011, the City has hired Steve Milliken as its new Fire & Rescue Chief. Steve replaces newly retired, former Chief Rick Wagner, a 39-year veteran of the department. Although sad to see Rick retire, City officials have full confidence that Steve Milliken will do a great job as Chief.
Steve Milliken was hired by Trotwood as a Full-Time Firefighter/Paramedic in March 1999, promoted to Lieutenant in September 2005 and promoted to Battalion Chief in January 2010. He brings 18 years of professional Fire/EMS experience to the new job.
Steve is a Level 2 Firefighter, Nationally Registered Paramedic, Certified Fire Safety Inspector, National Fire Academy Incident Safety Officer, and American Heart Association BLS/ACLS Instructor. He has completed his Fire Officer 1, 2, 3 & 4 training through Sinclair Community College. He has been married to wife Darlene for 28 years and they have two daughters.
During his 39 years as a fire professional, Rick Wagner served as a Volunteer Firefighter, Firefighter/EMT, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief before becoming Chief. Rick is a hometown product and a 1970 Trotwood-Madison High School graduate. He and wife Linda have one son, Scott who is also a member of the fire service family.
“Having worked with Rick Wagner for a long time, I know I have a large set of boots to fill,” said Steve.
“Stepping into this position held by my mentor and friend is certainly a daunting task. Chief Wagner was well known and respected and introduced me to many members of the community. I want to strengthen these strong community ties and continue expanding them for many years to come.”
